The Divine Comedy; Hell - Dante and Virgil descend a rugged path resembling a landslide's aftermath, guarded by the wrathful Minotaur. Virgil quickly distracts it, enabling their descent. Virgil reveals that a previous quake reshaped this part of Hell, hinting at Christ's descent into Limbo. They then approach a river of boiling blood where the violent are tormented, patrolled by Centaurs. Upon confrontation, Chiron, the lead Centaur, learns of Dante's mortal state and assigns Nessus to guide them. Nessus points out various souls, including tyrants like Alexander and Dionysius. As the blood's depth decreases, indicating varying violence levels, Nessus describes more souls they'll encounter and subsequently leaves the duo to continue their journey.
