The Divine Comedy; Hell - Dante and Virgil traverse between open tombs of heretics. Dante inquires if he can see those entombed, and Virgil explains that the souls will reclaim their bodies after Judgment Day. Suddenly, they are accosted by the spirit Farinata, who recognizes Dante's Tuscan dialect. Dante bravely engages with Farinata, discussing their opposing political backgrounds. Another spirit interrupts, seeking information about his son, to which Dante responds cryptically, causing distress. Farinata resumes their conversation, discussing their limited foresight in Hell. As they leave, Virgil advises Dante to remember the prophetic warnings he received, promising further elucidations from a figure who sees everything. They continue their descent, approaching a stench-filled valley.
