The Divine Comedy; Hell - Upon entering the second circle, Dante encounters Minos, who judges and assigns souls to their rightful place in hell based on their sins. The circle is a tempestuous realm, punishing souls guilty of succumbing to lust. They are endlessly tossed by violent winds, representing the power of their desires which once dominated them. Among these souls are notable historical and mythological figures like Helen, Achilles, Paris, and Tristan. Dante converses with Francesca, who recounts her tragic love story that ended in death, a tale that originated from reading about Lancelot's romantic escapades. The profound sadness of their narrative causes Dante to faint from overwhelming pity.
